Welcome to Rise and Shine Walkers, the home of Quality Tennessee Walking Horses, located one hour north of Indianapolis in the heart of Indiana. The farm is owned by Micki and Terri Haendiges. We are the breeders of Quality Tennessee Walkers. We believe that we have assembled the finest herd of mares and stallions that is available in this country. Here you will find us dedicated to natural gaited, no gimmick walkers. The disposition of our walking horses is our claim to fame. Gentle, sane, smart and just plain gorgeous is what we have to offer.

We strive to give you a stand out horse because we know that they become a part of your family. That is what we want in our horses. We don’t want you to take something home that isn't what we said it was. First of all, we want this horse to be a permanent part of your family; not something that you sell because the horse is not what you thought he would be. Second, we love our babies and we don’t want them tossed around. So, the responsibility is on us to find the right placement for them the first time. In reality, the only time we ever have control of them is when they are on our farm. After we sell them, we can no longer decide what happens to them. It is our responsibility to make the best match the first time around.

We have two full-time staff members on the farm. Their job is to handle the colts, mares, stallions; and to keep up with the daily chores. We want to introduce Janet, our lead farm forewoman. She has to be one of the most photographed horsewomen out there! You know she loves it, NOT...but she is a good sport! As you can see she is the one in most of the pictures. She has been raised with horses and is a true horsewoman to the nth degree. She works with the babies every day and has a keen eye for their welfare. She is actually a farrier.

All babies are trimmed and their feet are handled as they stand tied! We have seen farms where the babies are never touched by a human and the fear takes over. Personally, we like a baby that just loves to have human attention and will walk away from food and friends to spend time with us. After all, many of us appreciate this little extra attention.  

Carolyn is also fantastic with the horses. She often carries on long conversations with them and is always the first to note any small scratch or bump. You know youngsters, they will always find a way to get them. She has been with us for about two years and is a fantastic asset.

Both Janet and Carolyn have made the Dreams of Rise and Shine Walkers come true. Sensible, sane, and smooth walkers are the finest example of the breed at Rise and Shine Walkers.
